Background and heritage of the isonzo front in bohinj

The Kobarid museum presented itself in Bohinj within the events “Background and heritage of the Isonzo front. Bohinj and surrounding mountains were important hinterland and place of supply routes for the austro-hungarian army in Krn range during WW1. After all, this is the area of Walk of peace.

Events were carried out in collaboration with Triglav national park, Turizem Bohinj and Mountaineering society Srednja vas in Bohinj. On Thursday, 22. September we opened the travelling exhibition “29 months of fights along the Soča” in the Cultural Center. During the opening, the director of Kobarid Museum Martin Šolar presented the importance and mission of Kobarid museum and its connection with the area of Triglav national park and Bohinj. Author of the exhibition, curator Jaka Fili, presented the exhibition and emphasized the fact that the exhibition offers a deliberation about the nonsense of war to the visitors, furthermore the presented events in combination with all the conflicts of the 20. and 21. centuries call into question the thesis that history is the teacher of life. The exhibition will be on view until 13. November 2022 during opening hours of the Tourist information centre Stara Fužina.

On Friday, 23. September 2022, we visited military cemetery Rebro in Bohinjska Bistrica and the collection “Mali vojni Muzej”. In the afternoon we went towards Komna and na Kraju mountain pasture. Triglav national park together with Turizem Bohinj organised a thematic path “Hinterland and supply lines for the Krn range” more than 20 years ago. Today, the path is a part of the Walk of peace. Information signs are currently in a phase of renovation. In the evening, there was a thematic evening in the mountain hut under Bogatin, during which the Walk of peace was presented together with its new guide.

On the last day, Saturday 24. September 2022, the weather was not the most suitable, but nevertheless we made a hike on the remains of the Isonzo front and climbed on the Bogatin pass. To conclude the event, there was a memorial Mass on the na Kraju mountain pasture to commemorate all the fallen of the Isonzo front.
